SUMMARY
The Toledo Museum of Art seeks a self-driven Accountant to join the Finance team. This role will report directly to the Controller and be an integral part of the team. The Accountant  performs processes and procedures related to monthly close, general accounting functions, reconciliations, and analytical reviews of financial results. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy of financial data, gathering operational data, reconciling transactions, interpreting results, and creating reports in variety of mediums. This role also provides data driven conclusions and recommendations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Assists with general ledger processes including month-end transactions
  • Completes financial reconciliations and troubleshoot variances
  • Monitors and reports income and expense account analysis
  • Performs financial analysis and trending of key indicators to answer questions, identify opportunities for improvement and assist in the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Supports financial reporting and ad hoc information needs of budget managers by gathering, organizing, analyzing and interpreting data for departments, projects and campaigns.
  • Creates data driven reports and presentations identifying trends and occurrences in data; translates findings into various mediums including text, charts, graphs, displays, tables.
  • Identifies, compares, and analyzes variances from expected results and communicates explanations.
  • Performs various accounting and analytical review functions which may include cash flow, receivables, fixed assets, accrued expenses, debt, revenue and expenditures.
  • Participates in the annual external financial audit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
RELATIONSHIPS
Member of Finance Department, reporting directly to the Controller. This position works closely with members of all other Museum departments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 1-2 years of experience in finance or accounting required
  • Experience with Financial edge, preferred
 SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES
  • Must be highly organized, detailed, and proficient in Excel
  • Ability to learn accounting and database software
  • Ability to recognize data trends and make appropriate recommendations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and work in a a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to handle a varied workload with outstanding organizational skills and good follow-through.
  • Adaptable to a changing environment.  Ability to effectively work while experiencing change in work structure, processes, requirements, or cultures.
  • Ability to assist in decision-making by identifying and understanding issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for developing appropriate solutions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard open office work environment shared with co-workers, with related phone, computer and printer noise.  Position requires ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer and phone system; ability to lift 35 pounds and to remain standing or walking for extended periods; hours may include some evenings and weekends as necessary.
